by Edgar Rice Burroughs
Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Original cover artwork by Kent Bash. Easton Press Collector's Edition from the Masterpieces of Science Fiction collection. The volume is bound in full black leather, photographed standing upright at a slight angle on a light wooden surface. The spine faces left, displaying the title Tarzan of the Apes in 22kt gold lettering across three lines. Below the title, a small rectangular panel shows a gold-stamped muscular male figure in a loincloth holding a spear, rendered in fine line work. The author's name, Edgar Rice Burroughs appears at the spine's base in smaller gold text. Two small square emblems with stylized starburst motifs in gold sit at the top and bottom of the spine. The front cover features an expansive 22kt gold illustration framed by a thin gold border. The scene depicts a dense tropical jungle in intricate gold line work against the black leather. Tall trees with broad canopies extend across the upper portion. Thick tropical leaves and layered foliage fill the middle and lower areas. A figure can be discerned among the vegetation. The gold stamping is bright and crisp with no wear or fading. The leather is smooth, supple, and uniformly black with no scuffing or cracking. Hubbed spine ridges are evenly spaced and cleanly defined. Gilded page edges are visible at the top, bright and untarnished. The condition is pristine, consistent with an unread copy from a private, climate-controlled collection.
