Description

The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells, with original artwork by Charles Mozley, is a Collector's Edition from the Masterpieces of Science Fiction collection by The Easton Press, issued in a limited run and bound in full leather of deep aubergine with a fine pebbled grain and a low satin sheen. A rule of 22kt gold frames the front board, broken at the corners by scrolled flourishes and a small curling ornament set into the upper right. Centered within the frame is a tall rectangular panel outlined in gold and rising to a shallow peak at its top, filled with dense concentric contour lines that ripple inward like the ridges of a fingerprint and gather into a rounded form suggestive of a bowed head. A short line of gold lettering sits beneath the panel toward the lower left, too fine to be legible. The spine is hubbed, with paired horizontal gold rules above and below a circular medallion of interlocking gold spirals near the head; the title runs the length of the spine in tall gold capitals, the author's name, H. G. Wells, is lettered in gold across two lines at the foot, and a scrolled gold ornament fills the panel below it. The volume is Smyth sewn with concealed muslin joints, printed on acid-neutral archival paper, finished with 22kt gold gilded page edges, and carries a pristine bookplate inside the front cover. It is single owner, unread, from a private collection, always kept in dust-free bookcases in a dry climate, and its condition is pristine, as new, and unread.
