Description

The Island of Dr. Moreau by H. G. Wells, with original artwork by Jeff Fisher, is a Collector's Edition from the Masterpieces of Science Fiction collection by The Easton Press, produced in a limited run and bound in full leather of deep burgundy with a fine even grain and a soft satin sheen. A rule of 22kt gold frames the front board a short distance in from the edges, and within it the design is drawn entirely in fine gold line: a broad spray of straight rays fanning outward from a point set low toward the fore-edge, crossed by a long tapering vertical form that rises through the center of the board, with a dense curling ornament gathered against it at the upper left. The finer internal detail of that ornament is too small to be legible. No lettering appears on the front board. The spine is hubbed, raised bands dividing it into panels; the title is lettered in gold capitals across three lines in the upper portion, the author's name, H. G. Wells, sits in gold at the foot, and large circular gold emblems fill the panels above and below the lettering. The book is Smyth sewn with concealed muslin joints, printed on acid-neutral archival paper, finished with 22kt gold gilded page edges, and carries a pristine bookplate inside the front cover. It is single owner, unread, from a private collection, always stored in dust-free bookcases in a dry climate, condition pristine and as new apart from a single artwork plate/page that was folded-in and not face-trimmed properly by manufacturer.
